Congratulations to Team Manitoba athletes for their good results at the Youth Nationals in Kingston.
This year’s Youth National Championships were held from August 10-15 in Kingston. Three radial sailors and one 29er team were representing Manitoba. After a very light first day the athletes experienced a typical CORK day today with howling winds gusting to 35 kn, huge waves and rain, rain and more rain. Our radial sailors battled the elements while our 29er team had to sit onshore waiting for the wind to calm down. At the end just one race was sailed in the radial fleet and no race in the 29er fleet.
A three day training camp and a one day Provincial Regatta came to an end on Sunday, August 10. A huge thank you goes to Pelican YC for hosting this event, especially to Shelby Williams for organizing the camp, to Charlotte McConnel for providing all the delicious food and to Robyn Forsman for running the Provincial Optimist Championship. Another big thank you goes to the coaches Kelsey Stroppel from AB, Willie Macdonald, Shelby Williams and Connor Boyle.
Congratulations to the Provincial Optimist Champions: 15&under James Thompson, 13&under Bryce Kristjansson and 10&under Jonah Friesen. Overall winner of the regatta was Bryce Kristjansson.
At the same time we hosted a Laser Development Camp, also with three days of training and a one day regatta. Winner of the Laser fleet was Anthony Clark. Way to go everyone!
The Wabamun Sailing Club was the place to be on the long weekend as the 2014 Sail West and Western Canadian Laser Masters Championships got underway! Congratulations to Colin Krawchuk, who won a silver medal in the Laser radial class, To James Thompson, who won a gold medal in the 4.7 class and to Tomas Green, who won a silver medal in the Opti class. Way to go!
