Female Coach of the Year Award

Brigitte Smutny was awarded the Sport Manitoba ‘Female Coach of the Year Award' at the Night of Champions on Monday April 30. This award is granted to recipients for their remarkable efforts and successes
of amateur sport in our Province.

 

Coaching Manitoba Excellence Award

On April 14 Brigitte was also awarded the Vince Leah Memorial Award. The Coaching Excellence Awards recognize and celebrate the best of coaching in Manitoba. These awards are designed to acknowledge the contributions coaches have made to their sport and athletes over a number of years

May

Spring Training at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre
A spring training in Prams and 420s on Tuesdays and Thursdays will start on Tuesday May 22 from 5:00pm – 6:30pm. It's free for provincial team members, otherwise the fee for the 12 sessions is $100 (drop in fee $15). Please sign up for this training.

Spring Training at the Gimli Yacht Club
A spring training is scheduled Saturdays for Lasers and 29ers and Sundays for Optis and 2.4ms at the Gimli YC. We will start on May 26 and the training will end on July 1. We will meet at 11:00am for a briefing (please have your boats rigged and be ready to go) and will end at about 2:00pm with a debriefing. The six sessions include the Viking Cup on June 16/17. There is no fee for provincial team members, for all others there is a fee of $100 (drop in fee $25). Please sign up for this training.

Buffalo Cup
Fun - Fast - Fabulous One Design Races! Annual Buffalo Cup at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre at Fort Whyte Alive. One night of short, tight and quick races – openings for 8 crews – boats, beverages and BBQ provided – "experienced" crews are encouraged. Viking Cup
The annual Viking Cup is scheduled for June 16-17 at the Gimli Yacht Club.

Instructor Clinic
We will run a clinic for CAN Sail 1+2 instructors (former white sail coach) and CAN Sail 3+4 instructors (former bronze sail coach) from July 2-6 at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre. For registration and to set up a date for evaluations please contact us @ sailing@sportmanitoba.ca

NOTE: In order to be covered under CYA's Liability Insurance policy and to be authorized to award CYA certification levels, all coaches must register with CYA and pay their annual dues. The registration fee of $160 can be securely paid with Credit Card by logging in to the CYA Member's Area @ www.sailing.ca

NOTE: The Temple Reef Sailing Club is seeking a CAN Sail 3+4 Instructor (former bronze sail coach) for 8 weeks this summer. For more information contact Brian at bcox@lakeheadu.ca

Manitoba Games Training Camp
Attention Manitoba Games participants! Don't miss out on our training camp held Thursday, July 5 until Sunday July 8 at the Gimli Yacht Club. The camp includes Dartfish sessions, a nutrition seminar and mental training and you will be coaches in different groups.

Sail Day at the WSC
On Friday, July 6 we will host a Sail Day in conjunction with Able Sail Manitoba from 11:00am – 8:00pm at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre. All of our instructors will be at the site to introduce our programs and anyone can try out our 420s, Prams and Martin 16s.

The classes for our Learn to Sail program at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre at Fort Whyte Alive are filling up quickly. Please register at the office at 925-5650. To view the schedule visit www.sailmanitoba.com and click on the link 'sailing lessons'.

Zig Zag open
This year's open regatta at the Zig Zag Yacht Club will take place on July 7/8.

Power Smart Manitoba Games

Big Bird Classics
The open regatta at Pelican Yacht Club is schedule for July 21/22

Development Training Camp at Zig Zag YC
A 3-day training camp will be held from Monday, July 23 until Wednesday, July 25 at the Zig Zag YC.

Development Training Camp at RLWYC
A training camp will be held from Thursday, July 26 to Friday, July 27 at Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club

Laser No Coast Championships at the Richardson Regatta
The Laser ‘No Coast Championships” (25 Grand Prix points) will be hosted by the RLWYC in conjunction with the Richardson Regatta on July 28/29, 2012.

The second Leukemia Cup will take p[lace at the Gimli Yacht Club on August 5

CYA Sail West in Vancouver
This year's Western Canadian Championships will take place from August 9-12 at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.

BOOT Camp
The camp will be held on Thursday and Friday August 16-17 starting at 9:00am and ending at 4:30pm. The Provincial Championships will take place on Saturday and Sunday August 18-19. Don't miss the parent night on Saturday, August 18.

Little Bird
Pelican Yacht Club's dinghy regatta takes place on August 18

CYA Craig and Ross Youth Championships
The U19 will be hosted from August 28 - September 1, 2012 by the Gimli Yacht Club. The title sponsor for this event is the local accounting firm Craig and Ross. A volunteer appreciation dinner will take place on Friday, August 31 at the club. For more information visit www.sailwest2011.com

The annual Dinghy Cup is scheduled for September 2 and the Keelboat Cup for September 3.

Attentions Clubs!
You can access Sport Development Grants from Sport Manitoba for your sailing program if it promotes participation and if it supports the development of sailing. Contact the office to get the program manual outlining the grants.

Membership Fees
The invoices for this year's membership fees will be sent out by the end of this month to all member clubs. The membership fee is $25 for individual members and $10 for learn to sail members. Clubs must be paid up before the season starts to make sure to be good standings with Sail Manitoba and CYA.
